Colts win home opener
2015-09-19Leonardo and Rector lead Colts to exciting opening season win!
The Colts opened the 2015/16 on a successful note, winning a high scoring 8-5 win over the visiting Antigonish Bulldogs. Play in front of 250 fans at Cole Harbour Place, the teams played a tight checking first period, with the only goal coming from Colts Jacob Tibert.
The Colts stormed out with 5 unanswered goals in the second, to take a 6-0 lead, with goals by Rector, Withers, Dempsey, Armstrong and Conor Carson. The Bulldogs then woke up and scored the next 3 to finish out the second trailing 6-3.
The bulldogs answered first in the third to close the gap to 6-4, but the Colts answered back on a goal by Brandon Beaulieu to restore the 3 goal cushion. Antigonish struck once more, but Josh Rector scored his second of the game, into an empty net, to seal the 8-5 win. Brandon Leonardo chipped in with 5 assists in his Colts debut.
Other scores around the league saw the Valley Maple Leafs edge the Cumberland Blues 4-1, and the East Hants Pengiuns defeat the visiting Strait Pirates 4-1.
The Colts are back in action again next Friday, versus the rival Sackville Blazers at 7:30 at CHP.
